This year, I am taking a pickup load of electronic waste (computers, printers, etc.) to an e-waste recycler. Folks should think about all the e-waste going into landfills and all the associated heavy metals that are in that waste. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Cool…I have an old computer to dispose of, Bill can you stop by my house and pick it up?

      • Bill West says:

Probably not, but I can give you some ideas for what to do with it. All of the stuff I took to the e-recycler had been gone through and I salvaged what I could use. If individuals want to get rid of an old computer, even if it is ancient, consider donating it to Goodwill, Salvation Army or a Veterans Org. like the DAV. You just want to make sure all data on the hard drive has been made unreadable. Any of these orgs would be glad to take your old computer. Something else you can do is make it into a DVR (digital video recorder). This can be done quite easily and even an old Pentium III with a 40 gB hard drive will serve nicely. You will need to buy a TV card for it but that’s cheaper than buying a TIVO. There are hundreds of things to do with an old computer and all are good ideas except throwing it in a landfill…that’s BAD.
Happy day after Earth Day. (Aren’t they all Earth Days?)

Happy Earth Day Everyone! I am coordinating a corporate wide sustainability and safety conference for next week in Chicago. The theme is reinventing ourselves with VIS1.0N
